Why the name change?
Infected with nostalgia, because I was reminded of something I did a long time ago, I have renamed the blog, The AA Book of the Dead. Older readers may remember the Automobile Association publication The AA Book of the Road. You see what we did there?
Actually, I can claim no credit, for the idea was [...]

Cunning
I thought it was cunning for Mr Springsteen to promote a new album on the back of the presidential inauguration (could they not find a better word than that?). I was slightly nonplussed when a new album was announced less than two years after the last one. At his peak, he went five years between [...]

Blogging seems to be a substitute for having a memory. Which is a concern, should something ever happen to WordPress, which is fairly likely, given [...]

Misc
This week was the occasion of my miscellaneous birthday. Like many Decemberists, I’ve always regretted that my birthday falls at this time of year. I would rather it were in the summer, at a time of year I’d be more likely to have joy in my heart.
I suffer a bit from SAD, and generally hate [...]

Meltdown
After 12 years of internet use, I have reached meltdown point. This is, I think, due to the somewhat schizophrenic existence of the teacher. During the day, I am a [mild-mannered] classroom practitioner who fights a daily battle against bombardment with paper; in the evenings and at weekends, I roam wirelessly about the webernet, pulsating [...]

We are a Medium
I bought a new belt, as do-it-yourself belt holes tend to be unsatisfactory. As of right now, I’m officially a Medium in belt sizes, not a Large. This is because I have dropped around 7kg (a stone… ish) since starting WeightWatchers (online) just under 6 weeks ago.
You don’t need to be a maths genius to [...]

New new new new new
One of the truisms about media/advertising is that advertisers are keen on the 16-34 year old demographic, because it’s relatively cheaper to persuade one of these individuals to try something new, or to change brands. The over 40s, on the other hand, while they may have more disposable income than the younger age group, are [...]

Carla, O Carla
So I was asleep last night and I heard a tapping at my window. Tap tap tap, it went. I woke up and stared at the ceiling for a moment, not sure what had woken me. Tap tap tap. I got up and went to look outside, and who do you think it was? Only [...]

Band Night
Not
I’ve been off live gigs for a while now, for various reasons. There’s the cost of the tickets vs. the shithole conditions you’re expected to put up with for the privilege of watching live music. This could be, for example, having nowhere to sit except a cold concrete floor while you wait for the gig [...]

I just can’t be bothered…
I didn’t bother to watch Mistresses on BBC1 last night, because it looked like yet another low-rent attempt to “do” something like Desperate Housewives, which is not much to aim at in itself. One up from an afternoon soap. Mistresses had that Sarah Parish in it, and she’s been in waaaaay too many of these [...]
